Adding product configurator options - the easy way
September 04, 2013 10:28AM
I had to write this as a reply for the forum.
But as this may be useful in general, here it is as a standalone howto.

This is about adding options to your products, options that may be free or not.
In general this is about how to create configurator options, and how to actually attach them to a specific product (eventually giving them a value as well).

This howto is built around the specific question of the forum, so the task faced here is:
How to add a "get one for free" option to cart entries?
Let me know if it sounds obscure!

STEP 1
Go in PRODUCT CONFIGURATOR OPTIONS => Manage/Define Configurator Fields.
Add a new one this way:
Show order: 0
Name: Get one for free!
Super Category: none
Image: none
Can be user selected: Yes
Optional Weight: none
Optional Description: you will have a free banner, blah, blah, blah...

STEP 2
Start by going in the PRODUCT OPTIONS => Configure Products area of the product you want to offer the option for.
Go in the Configure Instant Pricing and Product Configurator area.
On the right, into the Included Properties list, check the Get one for Free! option (it will be the same name you gave in the product configurator area)

Now move into the Configure Pricing Structure area. The Get one for Free! option will be listed into the PRICING ADD-ONS BASED ON PRODUCT CONFIGURATOR VALUES area.
Make sure it has these settings:
Apply area: Product Based
Optional: yes
Default "optional" value: no
Interpolated: no

At this point there will also be a Get one for Free! entry in your pricing matrix as well, with all values set to zero.
This is meant to be a free option, so it's ok to leave it this way.

And that's all!
If you now will add that product in RTD cart, the Get one for Free! option will be shown allowing user to decide if he wants it or not.
Close to the option there will also be a question mark, where all the text you want will be shown (it's the "Optional Description" of the product configurator)

In general this is how you add a configurator option to a product of yours.
Of course, if the option will have a cost, all you have to do is to edit the zeros into the pricing matrix.

Hope this helps!
