Hi Alex and RTD Team,
What is going to be the best way to convert my rtd pages to https? We originally set it up so I would link to template page but now my website is all https and I think that maybe a problem with the rtd template pages not being so when the new chrome rolls out. Any ideas? work arounds.

Let me know.
Thanks,
don

Hi Don,

You cannot convert RTD to https.
See this reply of mine:

If your site will be https, then the only way will be to load the RTD links top-level or standalone. Cannot be loaded into a popup or iframe.

We are slowly backing ourselves into a corner where we will someday have to find a way out. I recently read the results of a study and one interesting take away was this quote:

"Website security (HTTPS) is important, but doesn’t have a big effect on rankings. The same goes for adding videos to your website – nice to have (always!), but not imperative for SEO."

Although making our sites fully https is not imperative for rankings, Google and Firefox are starting to make us look like the bad boys on the block. In Google Chrome click on the circle i to the left of your insecure address and it reads:

"Your connection to this site is not secure. You should not enter any sensitive information on this site (for example, passwords or credit cards), because it could be stolen by attackers."

Firefox has something similar now. The last few builds of Firefox had an obtrusive warning that would scare anyone away but seems to have now been removed in the latest release.

Perception from visitors about using our sites, fueled by ever increasing warnings from browsers, may be what drives us to go fully secure in the not so distant future.

Hi not sure what you mean by standalone? I don't believe I am showing anything in an iframe. I am simply linking to the page
as you can see here.
https://www.mybambino.com/large-fixed-step-stool-rtd-esp.html

the link to rtd is http://designer.realtimedesigner.com/mybambino/index.php&tng=Y3BpPTc0ODkxJmN0aT0yNTUzOA==&extvar_origin_page=mybambino.com/g-fixed-stool-natural.html
if I change to https://designer.realtimedesigner.com/mybambino/index.php&tng=Y3BpPTc0ODkxJmN0aT0yNTUzOA==&extvar_origin_page=mybambino.com/g-fixed-stool-natural.html

then non of the rtd shows up.

So I would have to get in and make those things secure if possible but how would I go about it? I am a little confused

Also not concerned about ranking as you know you are another site. however chrome is changing October 1 see attachment and of course with google will get more vigorous about shaming non https sites.

What would be your advice here as you may recall I am not the most tech savvy.

thanks don

Ok, I see your confusion. BUt I have to quote myself from the other thread I linked above.

You tried to change the RTD link from HTTP to HTTPS: obviously it was not working. From that thread:
Quote

2nd, WHOLE RTD links (designer).
Invoking the API or an RTD link with the SSL version is not going to help. This because you might be invoking the designer with an SSL url, true. But everything loaded by it and into it will still be non-ssl, and so mixed contents will still happen.
On top of that, technically, the SLL and non-SSL versions of an URL are technically different domains. This means that creating mixed contents with the two will also cause issues with cookies and sessions (which are set and valid only for one domain).

So, DO NOT ATTEMPT changing that link. It will only be more issues.

Back to your original question: by "standalone" I mean what you are already doing, which means you'll be fine. What will make non SSL page not working is only the eventual inclusion of them into an SSL environment (like the popup/frame I mentioned), but as this is not what you're doing I see nothing to worry about.
You're linking to the RTD which will be a non-secure page, true. But that's the RTD only, not your whole website.

All that said, I just have to repeat my initial one as the final answer for you: I'm sorry, but for now you cannot convert RTD links to https.

But I also have a good news!
For your specific setup, I created and hosted the "bridge" page right in the RTD servers, so I was able to access and modify it.
As you switched to HTTPS also that bridge needed to be edited. I did so, but I also forced the RTD thumbnails (which will show in your cart) to be returned as SSL. As I said, direct link to itmes like images CAN actually be secured.
By doin this change, I at least guarantee your own cart will always appear fully secure, while previously it was not because of the non-secure image from RTD

Thanks Alex,
I hope this doesn't become a problem though. Let's see what the browsers do.

Thanks,
don
