Adding past orders to a registered user

We know that unless a user is registered and signed in at the time of order, the order will not show in Past Orders. Is there some method you could add in admin that would give us the ability to link an order to a registered users account?

Technically it's easy, I would just need to assign the order the specific user ID.
Just thinking which may be the best way to allow this selection by browsing your users. We have companies having more than 17k, so it cannot be something like a dropdown...

In other terms, we need to find an effective way for you to obtain the needed user ID.
Easiest way for me would be to show the user ID in the users panel, and give you a numeric field in order to assign the order to a specific ID. But this means you will need to use 2 distonct pages to do the thing manually.

Do you have any possible alternative idea?

I've got creative thoughts here.
Done, in a way I like. In orders page there's now a "Is registered user?" yes/no label on top of user details, along with a "manage" button.
And from there, you can assign/unassign the order to any reguser you have.

Should work fine, but as usual test and let me know!
